Experimental Study of a Microchannel Bubble Injector for Microgravity Applications
نویسنده
چکیده
We perform a quantitative characterization of a microbubble injector in conditions relevant to microgravity. The injector pregenerates a slug flow by using a capillary T-junction, whose operation is robust to changes in gravity level. We address questions regarding the performance under different injection conditions. In particular we focus on the variation of both gas and liquid flow rates. The injection performance is characterized by measuring bubble injection frequency and bubble sizes. We obtain two distinct working regimes of the injector and identify the optimal performance as the crossover region between them. S. Computational Simulation of Hydrodynamic Convection in Rising Bubble Under Microgravity Condition
In this work, rising of a single bubble in a quiescent liquid under microgravity condition was simulated. The related unsteady incompressible full Navier-Stokes equations were solved using a conventional finite difference method with a structured staggered grid. The interface was tracked explicitly by connected marker points via hybrid front capturing and tracking method. One field approximatio...
متن کاملExperimental investigation of bubble growth and detachment in stagnant liquid column using image – based analysis
An experimental study has been carried out to characterize bubble formation, growth, and detachment mechanisms in a stagnant liquid column. Both bubble frequency and bubble detachment size were measured in different gas flow rates, injector diameters and orientations, submergence height, and liquid properties. Experiments were performed for air injection flow rate ranges between 200 mlph and 12...
متن کاملCharacterization of the Performance of an Injector for the Controlled Generation of Microbubbles
We perform a characterization of a recently reported microbubble injector in conditions relevant to microgravity. Injection of bubbles is based on the generation of a slug flow in a capillary T-junction, whose operation is robust to changes in the gravity level. We address questions regarding the performance under different working regimes. In particular, we focus on the regimes found within a ...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of growth of a vapor bubble during flow boiling of water in a microchannel
The present study is performed to numerically analyze the growth of a vapor bubble during flow of water through a microchannel. The complete Navier– Stokes equations, along with continuity and energy equations, are solved using the SIMPLER (semi-implicit method for pressure-linked equations revised) method. The liquid–vapor interface is captured using the level set technique. The microchannel i...
